Amy Tran - USA
Date of Birth:  2 August 1980 (28)
Position: Goalkeeper

Goalkeeper Amy Tran is a two-time FIH All Star and won the 'Goalkeeper of the Tournament' award at the 2006 World Cup in Madrid as she helped the USA achieve a best ever sixth place finish.

Tran is an incredible shot stopper. Her lighting quick reactions have resulted in her being considered by many as one of the finest goalkeepers in the world. This is a marvellous achievement for a player who has admitted that she started playing hockey because it was the only autumn sport on offer at Northern Lebanon High School, Pennsylvania.

She debuted in 2001 against Japan in the Korea Cup and graduated from the University of North Carolina in Speech Therapy, Hearing and Communications one year later. She lists fellow NCU graduate Michael Jordan as her sporting idol.

Sporting prowess clearly runs in the family – her sister Katy was also a goalkeeper for NCU and represented the USA at junior level.

The USA proved to be a superb defensive unit in the Olympic Qualifier at Kazan, when they conceded just four goals in their six matches. Tran was the central figure to that terrific display – if she produces more of the same in Beijing then the USA will be difficult to score against.
