Jerome TRUYENS (Belgium)

Jerome Truyens - Belgium Date of Birth: 4 August 1987 (21) Position: Forward
A young man with a very bright future. Jerome Truyens made a big name for himself when he scored the most dramatic of winning goals in the 2007 EuroNations bronze medal match.
The opponents on that day were none other than current world champions Germany, and with the score tied at 3-3, Truyens was first to react to a quick free hit that caught the German defence asleep to seal a 4-3 victory. The goal gave Belgium the most unexpected of Bronze medals, and more importantly guaranteed Belgium’s participation in the 2008 Beijing Games, in the process forcing Germany into the Olympic Qualifiers.
Having made his debut at the age of just 17, Truyens is now 21 and already approaching 100 international appearances. He plays his club hockey in Brussels for Racing Club, where he has played his whole life.
Although a one club man, he has not always been a man of one sport. His mother and father were both outstanding tennis players, as was young Jerome, but he decided that he preferred team sports and focussed on hockey. His Bronze medal goal at the EuroNations tournament ensured that many Belgian’s were very pleased he made that decision.
His impressive technical ability and sharpness in front of goal could make Jerome Truyens the star player for Belgium at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
